History of Pav Bhaji

Ingredients of Pav Bhaji

Recipe of Pav Bhaji

Making pav bhaji at home is relatively easy. Here's a step-by-step recipe for you:

Ingredients:

  • 4 large potatoes boiled and mashed.
  • 1 cup green peas
  • 1 small cauliflower, chopped.
  • 1 large onion, chopped.
  • 1 large capsicum, chopped.
  • 2 large tomatoes, chopped.
  • 4 cloves garlic, minced.
  • 1-inch ginger, grated
  • 2 green chilies, chopped.
  • 2 tsp red chili powder
  • 1 tsp turmeric powder
  • 1 tsp cumin powder
  • 1 tsp coriander powder
  • 1 tsp garam masala
  • 4 tbsp butter
  • Salt to taste
  • Coriander leaves for garnishing
  • 8 pav bread rolls
  • Butter for toasting the pav.

Instructions:

1.    In a large pan, melt 2 tablespoons of butter and add chopped onions. Saute until the onions are translucent.

2.    Add minced garlic, grated ginger, and chopped green chilies. Saute for a minute.

3.    Add chopped capsicum and saute for 2-3 minutes.

4.    Add chopped tomatoes and cook until they turn mushy.

5.    Add turmeric powder, red chili powder, cumin powder, coriander powder, garam masala, and salt to taste. Mix well.

6.    Add boiled and mashed potatoes, chopped cauliflower, and green peas. Mix everything well and add 1 cup of water.

7.    Mash the vegetables using a potato masher or a ladle.

8.    Cook the curry for 10-15 minutes until the vegetables are cooked and the gravy thickens.

9.    Add 2 tablespoons of butter and mix well.

10. Garnish with coriander leaves and keep aside.

11.  Slice the pav bread rolls horizontally and toast them in a pan with butter.

12.  Serve the hot pav with the bhaji and a dollop of butter.
